Celebrated Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has finally explained why he decided not to be signed by NAM1 into his Afropop recording and Publishing Company”Zylofon Media.
Zylofon media, a brainchild of Nana Appiah Mensah is a multimedia entertainment company in Ghana. The firm aimed at producing quality local content in the entertainment industry that can compete on an international level with other contents worldwide.
They dwelled in the creative arts industry with emphasis on producing international standards work and also give local artists platforms to expound on their talents.
A few of the Ghanaian bigger music exports were signed unto the label not until some of them exited contributing to its defunct nature. The artistes include Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Becca, R2Beee, Kumi Guitar, Joyce Blessing among others.
However, Sarkodie refused the CEO NAM1 the opportunity to sign him to the label despite how juicy the deal was due to reasons that were best known to him.
Speaking in a recent interview with Big Vybs, the ace rapper indicated emphatically that he refused the deal because it was impossible for him and his colleagues Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and R2bees to be managed under one record label.
“Up until now, we don’t have Stone, Shatta
Wale, R2Bees and all the other artists on
one platform outside. This has never
happened. And it’s because of funds. No
promoter can pay all of us at the same
time,” Sarkodie said.
He added that he dismissed the idea of being signed unto Zylophone music because he wanted NAM1 to rather invest in the young ones in the music industry.
“For a very long time, I haven’t been about
what Sarkodie can do for himself. I realy
want the Ghanaian industry to survive.
“That is the conversation that I had with
NAM1. So my approach was if the guy gets
the bread, we have a lot of artists who are
already in the system,” he said.
Sarkodie continued “we can just package
them and push them with full force. If we
had the money, we can host a big show in
America.”
