Akufo-Addo Has Denied Me My Emoluments – Former President Mahama

Former President Mahama is a Carrier of Contagious Corruption hence Unfit for the Presidency

Former President John Dramani Mahama says the Nana Akufo-Addo led government has refused to honour the entitlement due him as former Head of State.

In an exclusive interview with TV3, Mr Mahama disclosed that all the perks he is entitled to, such as an office space, payment of his domestic staff, and paying for his utility bills among others have not been provided to him as the constitution dictates by the sitting president.

The former President says he pays for all those from his own pocket, adding that he has received no ex-gratia from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government since leaving office in 2016.

“I pay the electricity bill for my house and my office, and I pay the water bills for my house and my office. I live in my own accommodation so the state does not pay me anything for accommodation. They haven’t given me an office so I rent an office at East Cantonment and I pay the rent myself.

“I pay my own fuel, the state doesn’t give me fuel, I pay my own domestic staff, I pay my own medical bills, I pay my own air tickets when I travel,” he said.

Mr Mahama’s comment is in response to an allegation made by NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, to the effect that the former president was paid an amount of GH₵14million in 2013 as ex-gratia.

“That’s an absolute lie. He says in 2013 14 million was paid into my ADB account. I have my 2013 Bank Statement here and I will let you look through and see if there is any 14 million payment. The only payment made to me by the government i.e Accountant General was my salary arrears of GH₵230,000”, the former President rebutted.

He further explains that the claims that he received privileges and perks worth Ghc15million are absolutely untrue.

“I receive only my monthly pension like President Kufour and President Rawlings was receiving until he died. That’s all I get”, he added.
