With a cash splash of €23m, Chelsea’s new head coach Graham Potter on the latest reports sighted has become the most expensive head coach in the World, overtaking Bayern Munich Julian Nagelsmann, whose buy-out clause was triggered a season ago for €20m.
The 47-year-old made he from rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in a five-year deal after three years and four months spells at Seagulls – set to replace Thomas Tuchel who was let go by Stamford Bridge side days ago.
Potter started his early career at Swedish top-tier Ostersunds FK, where he spent seven years and 5 months managing then to Swansea City in 2018 for 10 months before heading to Brighton.
According to the list sighted of the 10 most expensive managers in the history of football courtesy of transfermarket.co.uk, Bayern Munich’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann who joined from RB Leipzig second the Englishman followed by Jose Mourinho when he was signed by Real Madrid in 2010 for €16m.
Champions League-winning manager Andre Villas-Boas formerly of Chelsea also made the list in 4th place following his record move of €15m in 2011.
Current Leicester City’s Brendan Rogers made the list twice- his €10.4m to the “Foxes” in 2019 and €6.2m Liverpool move in 2012 respectively.
Other managers include – Paris Saint Germain’s Christophe Galtier, Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim, former Eintracht Frankfurt Hutter and Bradford City’s Mark Hughes when he joined Manchester City in 2008.
