Parts of the Dadiesoaba Nursing & Midwifery Training College have been destroyed by fire.

Fire extensively damaged portions of the Dadiesoaba Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Ahafo Region’s Asutifi South District.

According to reports, the fire began at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 4.

The structure was destroyed by the inferno that swept through the entire girls’ dormitory.

The incident is said to have affected around 150 students.

A video has been circulating on social media and was spotted by AngelOnline.com. Students were shown sobbing as they watched their stuff burn to ashes.

Though the origin of the fire has not been revealed, Bismark Oppong Dente, a student at the college, blamed it on what he called “dumsor.”

“The lights kept going on and off much like our typical dormitory,” he said. “So when it went off and returned, the fire ignited…

He also blamed the Fire Department for failing to intervene quickly enough to save the situation.

“We phoned the fire department, and they kept assuring us they were on their way… for approximately an hour and a half after we called, they had not responded to our distress call.” They didn’t bring the fire tender when they arrived… We don’t know if they came to see if our call was accurate or for whatever reason they came… That’s why the students were yelling at them and yelling for them to go.

In the meanwhile, students have resorted to building makeshift sleeping arrangements in their lecture halls.
