Former Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan Is Better Than All Strikers Invited By Otto Addo?

Ahead of international friendly games this month, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has handed call up to three strikers. The three strikers – whose primary duty is to fetch goals for the team – are Inaki Williams, Felix Afena Gyan And Benjamin Tetteh. Having invited these players, the notion is that, those players are way ahead of experienced Asamoah Gyan.

Before the list was made public today, Asamoah Gyan had already announced a desire to be part of Black Stars squad for 2022 Qatar World Cup. To set the platform fair for coaches, the former Al Ain hitman embarked on a personal training, which was geared at gaining match fitness by keeping the body in proper shape.

Videos and pictures of Asamoah Gyan have gone viral as he trains all the time to meet a World Cup target.

Despite efforts deployed by Asamoah Gyan, his name was nowhere to be found in a 29-man squad.

Presently, the three strikers called up for September friendlies have achieved match fitness as compared to the former Legon Cities striker. Inaki Williams and Benjamin Tetteh are enjoying good moments at club level despite scoring just a goal. The only goal is attributed to Inkai Williams but Benjamin Tetteh has been a regular player for Hull City in the English Championship.

Felix Afena Gyan is dealing with a lack of playing time as he switched from AS Roma to Cremonese. He is yet to fully command a starting role in his new destination, with his decision looking promising for club and national career.

Asamoah Gyan – going club-less as at now – could not have made a return in this new invitation. His legendary status astronomically outweighs that of the contemporary players, but his current form could only come at par with the three strikers if he was playing actively for a club, be it in Ghana or outside the boundaries.

The decision to leave Asamoah Gyan out of the squad is obviously backed by present showing rather than past glory.
