The ‘Fight’ For And Against The National Cathedral Gradually Hitting it’s ‘Freezing’ Point

The ‘fights’ and brouhahas surrounding the construction of the National Cathedral of Ghana is gradually hitting it’s ‘freezing point’; as the latest information coming reveals a good news for Ghanaians.

The construction of the National Cathedral of Ghana, was a pledge made by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo; then the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The Cathedral; if completed will serve as a 5,000-seater interdenominational Christian worship centre for the Republic of Ghana.

The idea of the cathedral was purely a personal promise made by president Nana Addo to God, during his 2016 general elections campaigns. This means its funding and construction must purely come from the pockets of Nana Addo, and not from the Ghanaian taxpayer.

The constructions of the National Cathedral at its initial stages, generated heated arguments; and got Ghanaians divided when information revealed that, the Nana Addo Bawumia Government was trying fund the construction with the taxpayers money.

These information caused great anger in many Ghanaians, who felt betrayed; and thought it was against the laws of Ghana, for the President use the taxpayer’s money to fulfill his personal promise to God for helping him win elections.

The debate about the Cathedral and its construction was on, until these recent times, when information came, that works on the construction has come to a halt because the project contractors, RIBADE Company LTD, has allegedly sacked some of its workers over a lack of funds.

Again; there are new turn of events, which is also a good news to Ghanaians, when the current information coming from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral project, revealed that, they do not need monetary support from the Ghanaian taxpayer, for the construction of the National Cathedral.

According to the board, they understand the issues raised by Ghanaians against the use of the taxpayers money to fund the construction the project, and so they will not depend on state funding.

This was exactly the issues raised by the Ghanaian people from the initial stages of the Cathedral; the president made a personal promise to his God, and so he must fulfill the promise alone…this is not right before God (you dont make a promise to God, and expect others to fulfill the promise for you.

Moreover, at this current state of national hardship, what God need the president to do, was to use the money meant for the cathedral, to improve living conditions of the people in the country; after all…the human body is the temple of God and not a national cathedral somewhere.

The fact is, the national cathedral is facing many resistant purely because Ghanaian are suffering; and this a president prior to his elections, promised also to turn lives around in Ghana; only to turn around to make situations difficult for the people.
