According to Mr. Gordon Edudzi Tameklo, a private attorney, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must bring procurement-related charges against his appointees who were included in the Auditor General’s report.
He implied that while the current administration was prosecuting some former National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials for procurement law violations, the NPP administration’s officials who had been implicated in similar violations had not received the same treatment.
I am aware of NDC officials who are being prosecuted for procurement violations, stated Mr. Tameklo, an NDC member, during the Key Points broadcast on TV3 on Saturday, September 3. There are currently Akufo-Addo appointees who have violated the PPA Act, but no action has been taken against them.
The question boils down to leadership, either Akufo-Addo is not in charge of this country or he is an accomplice in this whole engagement. “If every year the level of irregularities keep increasing under your watch and you are not taking any actions to deal with it then you are creating the image of being an accomplice.”
The Ministry of Finance failed to recover loans and advances of GH11,005,582.00 issued to public sector employees within the allotted time, according to the report, among other things.
“We suggested that the Chief Director of the Ministry communicate with the Controller and Accountant-Department General’s to arrange for the outstanding sums to be subtracted from the wages of the relevant workers.
“In 2021, five Ministry accounts were garnished as a result of lawsuits filed against other government organizations. The Ministry was unable to access the accounts as a result of the garnishee order.
