Rev. Dr. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, Lead Pastor of Cedar Mountain Chapel Assemblies of God, a thriving branch of the church at East Legon in Accra has been elected as the new General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church, Ghana.
This was at the 30th Biennial General Council Meeting of the church on Thursday, August 4, 2022 which was attended by more than 3000 delegates at the University of Cape Coast.
From Paknatik in the Bunkpurugu Yoyoo district in the North East Region of Ghana, Rev. Wengam was born to Matthew K. Wengam and Mrs. Deborah Wengam at Tema Community 4 on September 19, 1972.
Having attended Teshie Estate Preparatory School providing leadership as School Prefect, he proceeded to the Tema Senior High School (TEMASCO) where he was once again School Prefect and Scripture Union (SU) President.
He holds a BSc. Business Administration, (Marketing Option) from University of Ghana, Legon and a certificate in Corporate Governance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). He also holds a Master of Theology degree from the International Theological Seminary, USA and a Diploma in Christian Clinical Counseling from the same institution.
Whiles at the University of Ghana for his Undergraduate degree, he became National President of the Assemblies of God Campus Ministry (AGCM), and later served as the Church’s Youth Director for the Greater Accra Region for over 10 years.
He became Associate Pastor at Glory Assemblies of God, and Osu Ringway Assemblies of God and was later appointed Director of Administration at the Church’s headquarters for eight years, where he advised and pioneered reforms in the church.
Rev. Wengam is the Senior Resident Radio Pastor of Accra based Citi 97.3 FM, hosting the programme “THIS IS YOUR DAY”, a family morning devotion programme that runs from Monday to Saturday between 4:00 and 6:00am.
He also served as the Past Chairman of the Ghana Prisons Service Council and under his Chairmanship, the Prisons Council launched a Ten (10) year strategic plan and a self-help project titled “Project Efiase”. Support was solicited from public and private sector to transform Ghana’s Prisons into Centres of Excellence.

As the West Africa Executive Coordinator of Global Leadership Training, U.S.A, he has coordinated training conferences for civic, corporate, political, religious and emerging leaders since 2008. He is highly regarded as a spiritual mentor and coach to political, civic and corporate leaders and is the author of the best-selling book, “365 Prayer Missiles”.
Married to Mrs. Monica Wengam, the couple is blessed with two children, Ithra Nana Frema and Matthew -King Baanaan.
Rev Wengam takes over from Rev. Professor. Paul Yaw Frimpong-Manso who has been General Superintendent for 12 years.
