The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa speaking in an interview today at Obaatanpa Fm on the country’s current economy, has stated that, his government is putting in place measures to mitigate the economy. He admitted that, the country import much and therefore, it has affected the economy without leaving the Covid-19 pandemic Russia Ukraine war.
“Nevertheless, what I keep saying is that, difficulties are part of life but the problem is how to come out of the difficulties is what I am thinking about”
The president also talked about the free SHS policy after he was asked if he will take into consideration the opinions of many intellectuals that, he should introduce a cut off point in admitting Basic Education Certificate Examination or JHS graduates into senior high. He stated that, the opportunity is for all Ghanaians. He explained further that, it is the duty of his government to make sure all Ghanaians benefit from the free shs policy but anyone who thinks he or she can afford fee paying education can enroll his or her ward in the private sector.
He disclosed that, the United States is the first country that introduced free Senior High School Education though their economy wasn’t stable same as our own but they invested in education.
“There’s this thing that people don’t know, the United States is the first country that introduced free Senior High School. Although their economy wasn’t stable at that time but they invested much in education” he revealed.
The President of the republic also talked about the IMF bailout after he was told that, Many Ghanaians are living in a fear as they don’t know the social intervention policies that will be given to us or policies that will be affected.
He stated that, Ghana was already under IMF conditions 2017 but through his hard work some where 2019, we were rescued. “If we were able to initiate programs like free Senior High, 1D1F, Planting for Food and Jobs policies, why can’t we do well this time round? I am confident that, these social program will not be cancelled”
