I Gave You Free Legal Advice And Yet You ‘Failed’ Me – Randy Abbey Tells Okoe Boye

News broke this week that the National Health Insurance Authority had inaugurated a partnership with 4 clubs in the country. The partnership sought to sponsor the teams and their related communities. This drew a lot of backlash for Okoe Boye and his team at the National Health Insurance Scheme. Many noted that the NHIS have failed to pay some of their members and yet going to sponsor certain clubs. The four teams included Nsoatreman FC, Tamale City, Samartex FC and Kotoku Royal.

On Good Morning Ghana today, Thursday, September 1, 2022, Okoe Boye called on Ghanaians to stop the political attacks against this sponsorship. According to Okoe Boye, the sponsorship seeks to draw attention so people get to know more about it and get onboard. He explained that they have put aside 200,000 cedis to pay for this sponsorship. The deal seeks to cover the players, technical team and about 10,000 supporters of the team.

After explaining Randy queried why Okoe Boye had sought his consent of such a programme and yet when the time came he had forgotten to add his club to the team sponsored. Randy Abbey wondered why Kpando Hearts of Lions and their supporters were left out of the deal.

“You had this discussion me. I was virtually your consultant on this project and you failed to add Heart of Lions. I gave you free consultation and yet you failed me” Randy said in a jovial way. Okoe Boye also gave an amusing response when he explained that with the current debate on conflict of interest he didn’t want to implicate Randy by adding his team to the programme.

The debate still continues as to whether the Insurance Scheme should have sponsored the 4 entrants for the upcoming Ghana Premier League. Many say the Scheme is already fraught with many problems and as such the monies should have been diverted into other areas. The National Health Insurance Scheme also feel this is one of the best ways to attract more customers to the program.
