Students have been warned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to use “negotiations and dialogue” rather than violence, which causes property damage. “I am not quite sure who benefits from that,” he wondered.
“I can’t see that anybody benefits from that kind of behaviour.” This warning was given by President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House, when he was visited by recently elected NUGS leaders.
The leaders were in the White House to see the President, present themselves to him, and express gratitude for some of his administration’s pro-student policies.
President Akufo-Addo apologized to the student leaders for the recent use of violence by some students to air their frustrations and called it “distressing.”
“It’s distressing to wake up or to hear that students activities which ought to be, normally, without violence end up in halls fighting each other and destroying properties.”
As a result, he urged for open communication in which “everybody puts their card fully on the table.” NUGS was praised by President Akufo-Addo for contributing to “finding solutions to the problem and not having to resort to violence.”
