You Can’t Sit There and Say Things You Don’t Know About – Otumfuo’s Chief ‘Storms’ TV3 Programme

Yesterday, the Kumasi Traditional Council accepted the apology of Oyerepa FM and gave them clearance to resume operations in the region. Last week, the station was given an ultimatum to shut down temporarily if they want the Traditional Council to see how remorseful they were and accept their apology over certain comments made on their media platform.

Today, Tuesday, August 30, 2022 on TV3’s The Big Issues, Bernard Mornah and Murtala Mohammed joined Johnnie Hughes to discuss the vexed issues of Odike and Oyerepa FM. Both Mornah and Murtala Mohammed agreed that Odike might have gone extreme in certain areas but then he never attacked Otumfuo. They noted that it was harsh for Oyerepa to be temporarily shut down.

As the programme continued, the producer of the show put a caller on the line. The caller happened to be a chief who sought to correct certain perceptions on the topic being discussed. According to Nana Agyenim Boateng, the Amoamahene and Chairman of the Otumfuo Developmental Projects in Kumasi, Mornah and Murtala are twisting facts. He noted that Odike’s comments attacked the monarchical institution in Asanteman.

Nana mentioned that unlike Otumfuo who had mentioned that some of his chiefs were involved in galamsey, Odike pointed to Manhyia and this meant that Otumfuo was part. He noted that Odike even went ahead to mention Otumfuo’s name as watching on as this illegality happened. Nana insisted that the full video is over 16 minutes and was ready to send to the producers so Ghanaians listen to what Odike said and make their full judgement instead of picking just portions of what the 2012 presidential candidate said.

It is worth noting that Odike had in interviews said that he can’t go before Manhyia and apologize because he had been banished. However, Nana Agyenim said they had invited Odike and yet he had refused to attend. Whereas Odike fears for his life until the traditional authorities lift the banishment on him, the chiefs insist Odike can ask a chief to lead him before the council. Interesting times ahead as pressure mounts on the Kumasi Traditional Council to give a hearing to Odike. Many feel part of the pressure made them allow Oyerepa FM to resume operations.
