Otumfuor goes nowhere without preaching to the people of Ghana about how powerful he is and how he should be allowed to command the respect that he possesses in this country. The dictatorship that comes with the chieftaincies in this country has become overwhelming and has at this point begun to create a different impression about the Asantehene.
The Asantehene has been accused of over abuse of his power after the Odike issue. He is not the only one who has been a victim to the ‘all powerful’ leadership of the Asantehene. Recently, a comment from him which implied that he can never have his verdict overruled by any court in this country has made people begin bad talks about him.
The majority of Ghanaians think he prides himself as the highest authotity in the country and has the power above leaders in the country. Many also believe that the over abuse of his power has lessened the authority and respect he earlier had from Ghanaians.
People are fed up with the autocratic leadership and strict rules that comes with his kingship. This could be the end to a beautiful start as the Ashantis on how the Asantehene is accepted or respected in the country.
