A woman named Akosua Achiamaa from Awomaso in the Ashanti region shares how her boyfriend’s mother beats her after she went to their house. In the woman’s narration, she met Kwaku Sarfo who was a taxi driver at her sister’s workplace. He proposed to her and also convinced her that he is a decent guy who takes good care of any woman he dates. Achiamaa said one month after she conceived, the man sent her to a private hospital and lied to the nurses that she is a student but she is pregnant and he wanted to abort the baby so that she continued her education. The nurses didn’t do the abortion but advised him to allow her to give birth.
The nurses threatened to arrest him if he attempts to abort the child. On their way back home, Kwaku convinced her to go and stay with her mother for some months because of his mother’s behaviour. She listened to him and went to her mother’s house, but the man didn’t send her any money. She then informed her mother about the pregnancy and they all went to the man’s house. Achiamaa added that the moment his mother saw them he threatened to pour water on them if they step into the house.
The mother again told them that her son is not responsible for that pregnancy. They went back but the grandmother advice her to summon him to social welfare which she did. When she went to deliver the letter to her boyfriend, he didn’t accept the letter, but insisted on not being responsible for the pregnancy. Achiamaa said she painfully cursed him for not accepting the pregnancy. He became afraid and called his mother to inform her that he is the father of the child.
Achiama then went to Kwaku’s house but the mother took a stick and chased her out of the house whilst she was seven months pregnant. The woman claims that she didn’t go to the house again, Kwaku too didn’t send her money to take care of the child after she gave birth. A year later she again went to the Social welfare for help, they gave her a letter and she sent it to Kwakus’s house to deliver the letter to him but his mother beats her and also cursed her. She has to ran away from the house but up to date Kwaku has not been taking care of the child.
Achiamaa said she wants her boyfriend to pay back all the money she spent on taking care of their child. According to Kwaku, he had a suspicion about the partenity of the child that’s why he didn’t accept the pregnancy or take care of them. But his father advised him to do his responsibility as a father few years later, since that day he has been sending money to his sister to be given to Achiama but she always lied that he has not been taken care of the child.
