Today the Kumasi Traditional Council after a lot of pleading from chiefs and stakeholders decided to pardon Oyerepa FM over certain comments made on their media channel. It can be recalled that the media station was asked to close down as a means of showing remorse for allowing Akwasi Addai Odike to make certain supposed offensive comments on their station.
Many journalists came out to condemn the decision of the Kumasi Traditional Council to stop Oyerepa FM from operating. They also questioned why Odike was banned from Kumasi. Some of the journalists who spoke included Manasseh Azure and A-Plus, a social media socio-political commentator and former musician. Bongo Ideas, a blogger also questioned the autocratic tendencies of the Asantehene.
According to Albert Nat Hyde, popularly called Bongo Ideas, if Kumasi was the capital of Ghana, Ghanaians would have to ask for permission from Otumfuo to breathe. This comment apparently infuriated lawyer Maurice Ampaw. According to the lawyer, Bongo is a small boy who needs to be disciplines. He noted that it was wrong for someone like Bongo who has nothing to challenge Otumfuo.
“He is a small boy and he keeps making insulting comments. I will discipline him in a legal way. Tell him that he can’t even step foot in the Ashanti problem. I am good with the law and will discipline Bongo Ideas soon. Just like I silenced Afia Schwarzenegger, so will I silence Bongo Ideas” Maurice Ampaw said.
Is it the case that Bongo Ideas erred in his comments or he was harsh on the Asante overlord? Is lawyer Maurice Ampaw being too autocratic or has the right to banish Bongo ideas from the Ashanti Region? Do you agree with Bongo Ideas or his comments are overboard? Check out Bongo’s comment and be the judge.
