The former deputy general secretary for the New Patriotic Party, Nana Obiri Boahene has reacted to the recent statement which was made by Former President John Mahama about Ghana’s current judiciary.
In an interview on Neat FM this morning, Nana Obiri Boahene revealed that John Mahama’s statement is a serious indictment. He revealed that any other person would have been charged with contempt if he or she had made such statement. He added that what John Mahama said may have some portion of truth but his choice of words were wrong. He added that John Mahama is now bringing the judiciary into public laughter, which is wrong. He added that every Ghanaian has the right to express concerns but it should be done in a right way and with the right words.
“If he doesn’t agree with certain decisions of the Judiciary, he should have used some descriptions or best choice of words. His comments were unhealthy to the extent when he said the Supreme Court always rule with 7-0″ he said.

This comes after former President John Dramani Mahama revealed on Sunday that it will take a new Chief Justice to lead the process to repair what he said was the “badly dented image” of Ghana’s judiciary for people to win the trust in the system. According to him the deteriorated image of the judiciary easily sparks laughter from the citizenry when one decides to go to the court for justice.
“Recently, so badly has the image of our judiciary deteriorated that many of our citizenry openly make mockery of our justice system and of our justices. The phrase ‘go to court’ is these days met with derisive laughter instead of hope that one will truly get justice if he went to the court” he said.
The Judiciary Service became a topic in Ghana after the 2020 General elections. The NDC went to the supreme court because they believed that there have been some irregularities in the elections which led to their defeat. The court judged over the case and revealed that the NDC had no clear evidence with their allegations. For this reason, all seven Justices ruled against the NDC.
Following this incident, the NDC has lost several cases at the court. They believe the Judiciary service of Ghana under Chief Justice Anim Yeboah has seen a decline in its reputation because of their recent rulings.
