It’s The Truth; I Don’t Have Any Means To Reach Out To The Council To Apologise – Odike Reveals

The founder and leader of UPP, Akwasi Addai Odike has served another notice pertaining to the message by the Kumasi Traditional Council, telling him to apologize for his recent comment on Oyerepa FM.

Speaking on TV3‘s Midday Live on Monday, August 29, Mr Odike says that he has gone through hell and back and by God’s grace, he is still alive. According to him, even if he wants to apologize to the council, he does not have any means to do so. He explained and revealed that the traditional rites performed to banish him from the Ashanti kingdom is making it difficult for him to appear before the authorities to offer any remorseful gesture for his comments.

According to him, someone can kill him if he dares try to storm Kumasi to apologize. This is because, he has been banished from the city. He is therefore calling on the Kumasi Traditional Council to remove the banishment so that he can meet them and talk with them.

“Traditional laws and customs say that if somebody says something which is of grievance to the elders, you have to be called, giving you a fair hearing. That is natural justice. They banished me from the venue where I should go and apologize. And the banishment itself as our tradition is a punishment itself, meaning that they have gone through the judgement and have come with actions so until they revoke it, I can’t appear before them.”

“Secondly, per our tradition, they have to pinpoint where I went wrong during the panel discussions that hurt our elders. It is then and there that I will know where I was wrong so that I can apologise” he said.

Odike has been on the news for the past weeks following his comment on Oyerepa FM. His comment has led to the temporal shutdown of the media house. He has also been banished by the Kumasi Traditional Council for making a false statement about them. He has however been urged to apologize to them with immediate effect before the TV station will be reopened.

The issue of Galamsey has been talked about in Ghana for a long time. Our lands have been destroyed because of illegal mining activities. Several chiefs have been tagged with such activities because these mining activities are being done on their land. Government is working tirelessly to fight this illegality.
