It appears that the war between the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Commissioner of Customs, Colonel Kwadwo Damoah, will not end any sooner. After Colonel Damoah denied all the claims that the OSP made about the Labianca Scandal, a letter from the Office of the National Security dated October 21, 2021, to Colonel Damoah leaked online. And after reading the of the letter, one cannot help but sympathize with Colonel Damoah because when he is prosecuted, he will not be able to recuse himself at the law court just with this evidence from the Ministry of National Security.
In that letter, the Commissioner of Customs, Colonel Damoah, was fingered in a big scandal together with other top officials in the Customs. The letter revealed that some intelligence team, led by John Agbewu and other NIB officers, had intercepted two cargo trucks on the 8th of October 2021 near Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra, and the first thing that came into their mind when they saw the truck was that, the goods have been under-declared.
The team later seized the two cargoes and sent them to their main office for reexamination and their findings were that a number of goods in the cargo were imported into the country without any imports duties paid on them. The interesting aspect is that the people who were arrested put up very rude behavior towards the team and one of them was spotted placing a call to Colonel Damoah so that he comes to their rescue.
A few minutes after the call was placed, the team received a call from one of the Senior Officers so that the cargo trucks will be released, signifying an order from above. They also received another call that the cargo truck is released.
It is for that reason why the Ministry of National Security put into writing, a letter to Colonel Damoah, that an investigation must be quickly done so that they find out everything. Read the letter.
