The scenes at the party office in Tamale right now is nothing to write home about. The party supporters and exuberant youths have raided the party office to express vehemently, their disagreement with a decision taken by the party. They stormed the party office and destroyed most of the party valuables. One notable thing is that, most of these unidentified men were in possession of guns. And this was the reason or motive behind their violence.
A week ago, Alhaji Abdulai Ibrahim Mobila, the Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), died, and as such, and per the constitution of the party, he was quickly replaced by Adolf Ali to act as acting chairman of the National Democratic Congress in the Northern Region. The expectation is that he will serve the remaining tenure of Alhaji Abdulai Ibrahim Mobila as National Chairman until the next regional internal elections are held. He is the former Saboba District Chief Executive. After his appointment as acting Chairman, some people in the party vehemently disagreed with the position of the local leaders and called for a referral of the matter to the National Executives. However, their pleas were not heard.
It was in that spirit that these unidentified supporters of the NDC raided the Regional Branch Office of the NDC to destroy the place. Their simple message is that the acting Chairman must be immediately removed from the post.
Actually, the position of these people must be taken into consideration. This is because the Northern region will be a hot region come 2024 since there is a possibility that someone from the North, Bawumia, will be elected to represent the NPP. Thus, the vote might be shared between the NDC and NPP. But here lies the case where division is secretly loomig its head in the party.
