Felix Mantey, the Director of Communications for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has described those involved in the collapse of Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum’s GN Bank as having “kerosene” in their heads.
According to him, the political party’s founder and bankroller, as well as the owner of the defunct GN Bank, had a dream of operating a well-regulated bank that sought to bring banking services to people regardless of their location in the country.
He maintained that if it hadn’t been for the wickedness of people seeking power simply to deal with their competitors, the bank would have had at least 500 branches across the country.
On the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Mr. Emmanuel Quarshie (The Hitman) on Accra 100.5 FM on Friday, August 19, 2022, Mr. Mantey discussed three years after the collapse of GN Bank as part of the Bank of Ghana’s banking sector clean-up.
He bemoaned the situation in which people gain political power and use it to deal with political opponents as well as business competitors.
He urged Ghanaians to condemn such behavior, saying it is harmful to the country’s growth.
He warned that if the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, are not fired, Ghana will continue to suffer economically.
“The bank’s assets, such as motorcycles, pick-up trucks, generator sets, and buildings, among others, have rotted away since its collapse,” he lamented.
He charged the defunct bank’s customers with pursuing the receiver of GN Bank, Eric Nana Nippa, for the payment of their locked-up cash.
“When GN Bank collapsed, it had 350 branches across the country with over a thousand employees, but these heartless people saw no good in the bank,” he said.
He contended that, while the receiver claimed to have paid all customers, as many as 150 bank customers came to the Asylum Down office every day demanding payment.
