Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, has revealed that he has never spent a penny of the money he earns from the law-making chamber on himself since becoming a member.
According to the fiery lawmaker, he has spent all of his earnings on charitable causes, paying the school fees of the numerous children he sponsors.
“I use the money I make from Parliament to pay people’s school fees,” he explained. As I speak to you, I don’t even know how much I make as a parliamentarian because I put it into a separate account and I always give it out to people in need.
Ken Agyapong, a member of the August House for 22 years, told a gathering of youth and other well-wishers in Takoradi as part of his guidance conference that he does not need government support because he makes enough money from his business dealings.
He therefore urged the youth to fight for their future rather than relying on the government to provide everything they require in life, noting that people who rely on the government for provisions always struggle in life.
Those who believe that with government I will not make it, and thus I will struggle in life and change [turn] my life around, those are the ones who will succeed in life, but those who fold their arms and rely on government for everything will fail,” he charged.
Kennedy Agyapong, who announced his intention to run for NPP flagbearer earlier this year, has promised to champion the cause of businessmen because he believes they can play a significant role in the country’s development.
He has also stated his desire to instill discipline in the public sector, dismissing appointees who arrive late for work as a means of setting the standard for discipline in all aspects of the public sector.
