Liverpool Could Face Competition For These Two Top ‘Seria A’ Midfielders From A Premier League Rival

Liverpool is back in the transfer window for a midfielder following the injury of Thiago Alcantara in their opening premier league match against Fulham at the Craven cottage. The Spanish midfielder joins Tsimikas, Kieta, Jota, Jones, Chamberlain, Konate and Kelleher on the injury list. This means Liverpool will be left with few midfielders as the league progresses.

Jurgen Klopp has told his team officials to provide him with a new midfielder as soon as possible to bolster his midfield. According to the German coach, the transition from middle to attack was poor in the match against Fulham. He said his men lost most of the 50-50 challenge in the middle to the Fulham team in the post-match press conference.

Reports from Italian suggest that Liverpool is talking with Seria A giants Inter Milan for the transfer of Croatian international Marcelo Brozovic. The reds believe Inter Milan will agree on a swap deal with either Roberto Firmino or Naby Kieta for the transfer of Brozovic.

Other reports say, Liverpool is also keeping tabs on Ac Milan Midfielder Ismael Bannacer. Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the Algerian and he believes Bannacer can complement his captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in the middle if he joins Liverpool.

Marcelo Brozovic and Ismael Bennacer have been instrumental figures for the two Milan clubs in the last three years. Brozovic and Bennacer won the Italian Seria A titles in 2020/21 and 2021/22 respectively for their clubs.

Marcelo Brozovic’s current contract with Inter expires on June 30, 2026, but Liverpool believes a swap deal involving Roberto Firmino or Naby Keita will be more lucrative for the former Seria A champions to accept.

Inter Milan currently has more options in attack with Romelu Lukaku joining this summer from Chelsea on a season-long loan. The partnership between Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez has been amazing for Simone Inzaghi with Joachim Correa acting as a super sub. After losing the league title last season to their rivals AC Milan, the I Nerazzurri will need all their best players around to compete for the Italian Seria A and the UEFA Champions League hence a deal for Brozovic looks more unlikely to happen.

AC Milan has lost their midfield maestro, Frank Kessie on a free transfer to Barcelona this summer. The Seria A champions are left with Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer as their top central midfielders at the moment. AC Milan will like to keep tabs on the Algerian until his contract runs in 2024. Liverpool will face competition from premier league rivals Manchester for the transfer of the 24-year-old Algerian as the Reds also look to strengthen their midfield after a disappointing start against Brighton in their opening premier league match.
