NAPO Hits Back On Minority, Says They Know Nothing

The Vice President’s assertion that the government had paid GH17 billion for excess capacity payments resulting from the “take or pay” deal has drawn criticism from the Minority in Parliament. The Vice President was challenged by the Minority to present proof to back up his claim because they believe it to be false.

At a news conference held in Parliament House in Accra, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, the ranking member of the mines and energy committee, declared, “I am ready to step aside as the Ranking Member of the Mines and Energy Committee. Knowing that what the Vice President is stating is false, I say this with confidence.

In response, John Jinapor, often known as Napo, the energy minister, has urged the public to beg him to clarify the distinction between “take or pay” and “take and pay.” He will realize that there is an excess capacity or ENI capacity charge if he is aware of the two terms’ meanings and that the contract they signed was take or pay.

In order to make the distinction clear, he stated, “With the take or pay, it means that when I brought the plant, which had 400 megawatts, I would be responsible for paying for those 400 megawatts every day whether I turned them on or not. With take and pay, if I generated 100 of the 400 megawatts, I would only be responsible for paying for those 100 megawatts and not the other 300.

Therefore, he is free to pose that inquiry if he is confused about the fundamental distinction between take or pay and take and pay. He made the unequivocal claim that “they did not understand what they were doing because of the bad contracts that they signed.”

“I want Ghanaians to understand that the question they asked indicates that they were ignorant when they held political office. Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s morning program “Kokrokoo,” he continued, “It is not a fabrication of anybody’s imagination.
