Paul Adom Otchere has remained one of the most popular journalists in Ghana. On Tuesday 2nd August 2022, Paul’s Edition of Good Evening Ghana show was partly dedicated to dissecting some comments passed by Honourable Murtala Ibrahim Mohammed on the previous edition of his show. Readers can recall how Murtala appeared on the previous edition of Paul’s show to make allegations that Paul was not a lawyer and was a biased journalist.
Many Ghanaians expected Paul to have overlooked the said allegations made by the Honourable Member of Parliament since Paul was nowhere to be found in the Metro TV studios on that fateful edition. Paul Adom did not have mercy at all as he now asked the Honourable MP if Murtala has been successful at what he is doing as a parliamentarian. Paul Adom further explained that he has been successful at his work as a journalist over the years and his viewers can attest to that fact.
The broadcast journalist asked why Honourable Murtala Mohammed made such allegations about Paul. Paul also recounted how he collects archival data during his regular research before making presentations. He referred to Murtala as someone who did not have any background in law. Paul further revealed that Murtala’s background as a trained teacher with a Masters in Development does not make Murtala a lawyer. He stated that he is slow in responding to Murtala’s harsh comments due to the respect he has for the name ‘Murtala’.
Paul Adom Otchere recounted how their parents told him about Nigeria’s Murtala Airport and how the Airport was named after that great man. He explained that the said Murtala became popular within three months as the most popular politician in Nigeria at the time but was later assassinated. Many Ghanaians seemed not to understand why Paul brought in such explanations in his rebuttal to Murtala’s allegations.
In fact, on the show, Paul Adom mentioned that he would respond to Murtala in bits. Paul asked why Murtala said that Paul was not a lawyer. He asked why the MP should fight him for his editorial on Adwoa Sarfo and Assin North MP. Paul explained that it was not about whether or not Paul was a lawyer but what matters is how he contributed to society with his knowledge.
Many Ghanaians believe that Paul Adom should have met the MP face to face to enable the MP to release his evidence on the matters. Other Ghanaians were not happy about the fact that Murtala was always looking for the opportunity to fight others.
