Few days to election 2020, the electoral commission wrote to the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi (SALL) not to participate in the parliamentary elections. According to the EC, these four communities did not fall within any constituency hence cannot take part in the parliamentary election. It assured residents in these areas it will create a constituency for them after the general election and run a by election there to elect their representative in parliament. It’s been two years and counting since the general election was conducted yet no action has been taken on SALL.
Sadly enough, evey stakeholder is quiet over this abuse of constitution. The clergy, council of state, Ghana Bar Association, media, parliament, house of chiefs etc.
Ironically, they went to court over and a judge who comes from the area, Justice Clemence Honyenuga threw them out through the windows.
The constitution mandate every part of the country to have a representation in parliament. So I have no objection to those who say SALL are not part of Ghana. If they were the stakeholders would had intervened on their behalf. If they were, the constitution would had protected them when they went to court.
Kelvin Tailor puts it right.
“A lot of unpardonable wrongs have happened under Akufo Addo and it’s as though nobody even cares.
If not, how can opinion leaders, religious leaders, and traditional leaders all be acting as though nothing has happened when it’s obvious the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi are going to be without a representation in Parliament for a whole 4 years.
What exactly is their crime? Because someone wanted to win at all cost, the over 20,000 Ghanaians cannot have a representation in Parliament?
Have we all gone Mad ?
You may not like me, but you see, It’s a country we are building and these things are going to haunt many of you who now see no wrong or hear no wrong in the not too distant future.
It’s okay if you support NPP or do not see any good in the NDC and its supporters, that’s fine but would you have been okay if whatever Akufo Addo has done to the people of the Volta region is done to you or associates or locals?
Imagine the NDC in power sidelines a portion of the Ashanti region preventing them from having an MP just for political expediency sake.
We should be very careful what we have normalized under Akufo Addo because such will be repeated in the future and the NPP will be at the receiving end.
I am not a prophet of doom but the future for those who know what’s wrong today but would not speak against it does not look good.
The National House of Chiefs sees no wrong with this cruelty, and the Christian and Peace Council sees no wrong in this Madness.
The Islamic clerics see no wrongdoing about a group of people being marginalised, the academia and so called intellectuals see no wrong in this absurdity, and worst of it all the media do not see it as a dangerous precedent Akufo Addo has set.
Akufo Addo is 80 years, in the natural order of things he has less than 10 years to live but the dangerous path he has set Ghana on would be back biting hard at us and he would not be alive to even see the end result of his Stupidity.”
