Good news for Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo)

Ken Ofori-Atta, the minister of finance, has pleaded with Ghanaians to be loyal to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the administration in order to receive the crucial assistance required to revive the economy.

Ken Ofori-Atta stated in Parliament on Monday, July 25, 2022, at the mid-year budget review presentation, “The government realises things are challenging, but it is working hard to improve the economy.”

“I want to urge Ghanaians to support the President and his administration.

Ken Ofori-Atta said, “We recognise that things are difficult right now, but we have a strategy and the determination to carry it through.

He emphasised that the government has a proven track record of rescuing nations from economic hardship.

“We have a long history of successfully resolving national problems. We have done it before and we will do it again, and we will emerge stronger thanks to the backing of this House and the wonderful people of Ghana “He said.

He said that by September 1, 2022, the National Builders Corps (NABCo) programme would be finished.

The initial planned duration of NaBCo was three years, however, it was later extended for an extra year.

The initiative was designed to attract 100,000 recent grads.

Despite the government’s claims that it invested over GH2.2 billion on the initiative, some of the corps complained that the government had not paid their allowances.

But according to Ofori-Atta, NaBCo will terminate at the end of August after administering the programme for four years and helping about 100,000 recent graduates.

“Mr. Speaker, the National Builders Corps (NaBCo) programme, which was originally scheduled to operate for three years but was given an extra year to finish, will be finished by 1 September 2022. The initiative, which involved 100,000 recent grads, helped thousands of them prepare for the workforce. We have so far invested about GH2.2 billion “added he.

“As they depart the programme, the current cohort is urged to make use of the YouStart initiative and other existing programmes in our effort to develop an entrepreneurial country,” Ken Ofori-Atta stated.
