The managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, clashed with a former NPP Minister for the Manhyia North constituency after Kwesi Pratt recalled how the NPP demonized the IMF as a very bad institution and as an institution that incompetent leaders resort to for help. Reacting to that, Honorable Collins Amankwa warned Kwesi Pratt to be mindful of his words. According to him, it was very wrong for such a person to generalize the comments of one individual and associate them with the New Patriotic Party.
“Let me put it on record that the NPP as a political party, has said that if Ghana goes to the IMF, it is a bad thing. Individuals are the ones who have expressed their opinions. If you will remember when we introduced the Free Senior High School policy, we had some leading members of the party detesting the policy but in the end, the policy was rolled out. You are fond of generalizing comments.”, he explained.
Kwesi Pratt insisted that for someone like the Finance Minister to make such an utterance, there was no wrong for him to link that utterance to the government.
“The Minister of Finance is not an individual.”
