Political parties are organizations that promote specific ideological or policy goals; and also coordinates candidates, to compete in elections in a particular country.
In a political party, It is common for the members of the party to hold similar ideas about politics. One very important functions of a political party, is to create programmes and policies. And when they win elections and form the Government, the policies which are their manifesto, are implemented.
It is said, that politics is all about numbers; and also, many people belongs to political parties, mainly because they share in the same ideas and believes of the party.
This means…when a political party in government, starts deviating from it original goals or ideologies, it is very likely to lose its numbers; which could eventually lead to losing elections.
Also; there are some people belonging to political parties; who have no other options, than to remain in the party, even when the party goes totally wrong, or starts performing poorly in government.
There is a big question mark here. The question is…why would people join a political party based on the party’s promises, ideologies, policies etc; and yet when the party in government starts failing or deviating, these people still stay in the party?
In our quest to find an answer to this puzzling question, landed us in a very ‘beautiful’ post on Facebook.
The post, which was shared on a Facebook Group called ‘NPP Official’, was tagged; ‘I Now Understand Why Some People Still Supports The NPP’.
The post reads; ‘Stalin once plucked the feathers off a live chicken as a lesson to his followers. He then set the chicken free on the floor a short distance away. The chicken; immensely coated in blood and pains, yet when Stalin began to toss some bread crumbs toward the chicken, it followed him around”.
The post added that, “He (Starlin), said to his followers…this is how easy it is to govern stupid people, they will follow you no matter how much pain you cause them; as long as you throw them a little worthless treat once a while”.
This is exactly the answer we are looking for. Indeed; there are some people who will continues to support this NPP government no matter how hard the the economy is; or how poorly the party drives the nation; as long as they get some ‘pieces of bread’ to satisfy their selfish interests…they will remain in the party with full support.
