Golden State the NBA champion for the 2021/2022 season

On June 17, 2022 the final playoff series of the National Basketball Association ended. In the decisive encounter Golden State faced Boston, in which all of the team’s young stars had progressed this season. Despite the end of the season, the NBA teams will soon begin their summer training camp and will play a series of friendly games. Teams’ path to the final series

Golden State in the season 2021/2022 was able to avoid serious injuries of their leaders, so the team passed the regular championship in one breath. The Warriors dropped back a little in their last games, falling behind Memphis. But third place in the Western Conference was a welcome relief before the playoffs.

Serious injuries to Curry and Thompson in past seasons kept all basketball analysts on their toes, but getting their time on the floor right helped avoid problems.

Golden State defeated Denver in the first round with little trouble, losing in only one meeting. Their encounter with a feisty Memphis was expected to be tougher, but Curry and others won handily, 4-2. In the semifinal series with Dallas it was routine: One loss on the road and a 4-1 win.

Boston got off to an erratic start to the season, sitting in the middle of the standings for a long time. A long winning streak, however, allowed Udoka’s men to climb to second place in the Eastern Conference standings, just behind Miami.

The Celtics started the playoffs with a 4-0 win over Brooklyn. In the next two rounds, however, Boston came out victorious in only seven games. Milwaukee and Miami suffered from the hands of Tatum and company.

Boston got off to a great start

The final series of the NBA playoffs began on June 3, 2022 in San Francisco. Fans of both teams will remember the first game for a long time. The home team confidently controlled the game, leading +12 after the third quarter. However, Boston had a fantastic final stretch, allowing only 16 points. As a result the Celts won with a score of 120-108 and moved ahead in the series.

Golden State came out the next game more focused and showed their mettle in the third quarter. As a result, they pulled out a convincing 107-88 win and evened the score.

In the third quarter at the City Garden, Boston trailed 116-110. The home team committed far fewer turnovers and was able to neutralize the three-point threat of Thompson and Curry.

Turning point in the series

There comes a point in each series when the team leader must take full responsibility and lead his teammates. In Game 4 in Boston, Stephen Curry became that leader, showing the home team’s young stars how to do it. The Warriors’ leader had 43 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. With those stats, Golden State had no right to lose, which they did.

Boston had a good chance to grab a comfortable lead and move closer to the cherished trophy. But a 97-107 defeat, once again, tied both teams’ chances for the title. A frustrating defeat at home did not give the Celtic leaders in Brown, Tatum and Smart much confidence. After a poor start to the fifth game the visitors couldn’t press Golden State and fell 94-104. For the first time in the series, the Warriors took the lead.

A blend of youth and experience won Golden State the final game

The decisive encounter took place on June 17, 2022 in the City Garden. Boston had no margin for error, but the home team took an enormous number of turnovers in the first half, allowing their opponent to take a comfortable 15-point lead.

The Celtics tried to get back into the game, but Curry’s 3-pointers, Thompson’s field goals and Green’s solid play in front of the basket made it impossible. Golden State won the game 103-90 and became the 2021/2022 NBA champion.

The Warriors won their fourth NBA title in eight years, making Golden State a dynasty. No one else in NBA history has managed to win the title again after two disappointing seasons at the bottom of the standings.

Stephen Curry was predictably the MVP of the Finals. The 34-year-old averaged 31 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists over the final six games. Curry won the award for the first time in his professional career.
