A young man of over thirty years old has been heavily “molested” with electric cables about the size of an adult middle finger by military men in Ogome, a suburb of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
The heavily armed, stout military men numbering about seven in the of over twenty military men, severed the gentleman with the cables for taking video shots of the ECG cum military prepaid meter fixing exercise.
The leader of the troop (name and rank unknown), declined to speak about the matter when contacted by a journalist.
An eyewitness (Name withheld) who spoke to the writer noted that, the ECG engineers had an encounter with one resident who asked them (ECG) to hold on with the exercise as his mother who doubles as the landlady wasn’t around.
This request, he noted didn’t go down well with the ECG engineers who quickly had to invite the military troop to settle that matter.
He continued that another resident who drew closer to catch a glims of what was happening upon the arrival of the military troop.
The gentleman then started taking videos of what was happening, he added.
He said, a group of military men cornered the gentleman and heavily lashed him with the electric cables with some measuring about three feet for about two minutes after they seized the cell phone from him and threatened to wipe the phone to factory reset.
Some residents who were also bullied and intimidated by the uniformed men expressed their displeasure about the incident accusing the troop of harassing residents of the area.
It will be recalled that in recent times, there has been calls by some chiefs, residents, youth organisations and stakeholders in the Krobo area for the withdrawal of the military from the area as they feel tensed, intimidated and horrified by the heavy military presence to support the prepaid meter fixing exercise.
