Govt should know that the longer this stay, the longer this will stay – PSWU

Almost all public workers in the country are demanding for the 20% cost of living allowance (COLA) and have also threatened to join the four teacher unions that have already started their strike action.

According to Bernard Adjei, the General Secretary of the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), the longer this takes, the linger this will take.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, he said that they were expecting government to sit down with them and come to some agreement on their demand but that hasn’t been done because government does not take them seriously.

But they want the government to know that they will not go back on their decision to join the teacher unions on strike.

He stated “We have made the call, and we were expecting that those running this country will take this call seriously, sit down with us and agree on a workable solution. However, there have been delays and until the teacher unions started their strike, there was no engagement. government meets our demands, we will rescind our decision to [join the] strike.”

They are of the hope that government will do something about their demand for the COLA, however, if that does not happen, then as they have already informed government, they will also join the striking teachers. And government should know that the longer this stay, the longer it will stay.
