We have spent the last few months closely paying attention to a trial full of drama and, to some, excitement. The big question now is, will we be watching another trial? Amber Heard, Johnny Depp’s ex-wife, threatens to appeal the verdict as she does not agree that she is guilty.
To some, this trial was great entertainment. However, you will probably have more fun if you took a look at the NFL lines rather than watching this couple go to trial again. Although Amber Heard is threatening to re-open the case, there is no proof that she will, and many argue that it will not happen as Heard cannot afford to lose again.
An invalidated jury?
Amber Heard and her lawyers believe she and Johnny Depp need a new trial. They are asking Judge Penney Azcarate to overturn the sentence for several reasons. Among other things, because the evidence presented in court is, according to Amber Heard, not sufficient enough when talking about Johnny Depp’s allegations. Depp believes that Amber’s newspaper article from 2018 has helped ruin his career – and the jury took his side.
According to the New York Post, Amber claims that Johnny based his claims on an “implication theory”.
She also emphasizes that he is never mentioned by name in her article, and that what she wrote is not malicious or untrue. In addition, Amber’s legal team has reasons to believe that one of the jury members has been presenting themselves as someone they are not. Jury member number 15, according to the documents, must have been born in 1945. But Amber’s lawyers believe they can prove that this person was born in 1970, which may invalidate the jury.
Reduced sentences and new movies
The jury concluded that Amber Heard’s post in The Washington Post was deprecating, although Johnny Depp was not mentioned. They believe the actor should get a total of $15 million in compensation for what she has put him through. Due to a regulation in the legislation, the sentence is now set at 10.35 million dollars, while his lawsuit was for $50 million.
Johnny himself was sued by Amber for defamation as his team accused her of fabricating a story for the police under the leadership of her lawyer. Amber won the lawsuit and was awarded $2 million. One of the most shocking witnesses in this trial was, to many, Tracey Jacobs. She was Johnny Depp’s profiled agent for over 30 years. She testified, saying that Depp himself ruined his career due to his unprofessional behavior.
No matter how this ended we are going to see both Depp and Heard in the cinemas soon as Depp will be playing Jack Sparrow in the 5th Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Heard will be playing Princess Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, although many thought she would lose this part after the trial was over.
