4 Fruit combinations that can be dangerous

We all believe that a bowl of fruits and vegetables is the best form of food. We chop all of the fruits and salad vegetables in our refrigerator, juice a lime, and season with salt to make the healthiest salad ever. Is this, however, the best method to go about it?

Acidic, sweet or neutral – If this isn’t how you categorize your fruits when combining them, you need a lesson in how to go about your salads.

To begin with, you should not combine fruits and vegetables. First and foremost, certain fruits should never be combined. This is mostly determined by the rate at which certain fruits and vegetables digest. Many of your variations may be impeding healthy digestion and assimilation.

Here’s how you may choose what to put in your bowl next time:

1. Have melons with melons

Melons are celibates. They never pair up with anyone else. Have them by themselves as they may not digest well with any other fruit. This is because they digest faster than most other fruits owing to their high water . Avoid mixing your watermelons, muskmelons, cantaloupe and honeydews with other fruits.

2. Never have acidic/sub acidic with sweet fruits

Avoid combining sweet fruits like bananas and raisins with acidic fruits like grapefruits and strawberries, as well as sub-acidic meals like apples, pomegranates, and peaches, for better digestion. However, you can combine fruits with different acidities.

For a similar reason, you should not mix guavas and bananas. Some studies claim that the duo can even increase your chances of nausea, acidosis and headaches.

3. Never have fruits with vegetable

Vegetables and fruits digest in different ways. Fruits digest more quickly; in fact, many dietitians claim that by the time they reach the stomach, fruits are already partly digested. Fruits have more sugar overall, which can make it harder for veggies to be digested.

For the same reason, one shouldn’t mix orange with carrot as when taken together, they may cause heartburn and excess bile reflux

4. Never mix starchy with high protein

Only a few fruits naturally contain starch. These include plantains and green bananas. Nevertheless, there are a lot of vegetables that are naturally starchy, corn, potatoes, cowpeas, black-eyed peas, and water chestnuts. Never combine them with foods strong in protein, such as broccoli, spinach, raisins, guava, or spinach. This is so that your body can properly digest proteins, which require an acidic base, and carbohydrates, which require an alkaline base.
