Adwoa Safo is making history for herself with recent issues surrounding her long absence from the country even in her capacity as Gender Minister and also as Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya. According to Article 97 (1) C of the 1992 Constitution, a Member of Parliament who absents him/her without reasonable explanation to the Speaker should be vacated from parliament.
A lot of questions about her failure to make an appearance before the Privileges Committee despite having been invited have been raised from many dignitaries.
Adwoa Safo was one of three others Kennedy Agyapong and Henry Quartey, who were summoned to appear before the Committee to respond to questions regarding their protracted absence beyond the stipulated time.
Whilst the other two have since answered, Adwoa Safo is still yet to respond to the committee about why she has failed to appear before the Privileges and why she still has her Ministerial position.
In my opinion, there are 3 people whose say can bring an end to Adwoa Safo’s absence in parliament should they speak.
1. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The First Gentleman of the land and the most powerful person in the country. In his position as president, he appoints and fires, and his voice on the issue will settle all the controversies around it.
2. Gabby Otchere-Darko.
He is described as a stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Obviously, he is a revered and prominent personality in the party.
3. Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
A father remains a father. A father’s advice always goes far. Another person whose voice can make a huge difference in the situation will be the father of the MP, Adwoa Safo. Being one of Africa’s giants of engineering, the revered manufacturer’s role in all of these cannot be taken out.
Do you think there are other dignitaries whose intervention can bring a stop to Adwoa Safo’s absenteeism at parliament? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below and let’s get interactive.
