The return to IMF by Nana Addo government has sparked a lot of controversy in town. Barely a month ago, the finance minister Hon. Ken Ofori Atta swore heaven and earth that Ghana will never go to IMF for policy credibility. He said that was the reason why the government was introducing the E Levy as a home grown solution to our problems.
His deputy Hon. John Kumah who is also the MP for Ejisu constituency repeated the same statement in the floor of parliament.
Unfortunately, the government announced its decision to go to IMF the same week. This adds to several promises the NPP government lead by Nana Addo made to Ghanaians which it did the exact opposite.
Below are some of them.
1. I Shall protect the Public Purse
2. I am too old to steal your money, I have my money already.
3. ‘YÉ›te sikaso nso É›kÉ”m de yÉ›n’ to wit, we are sitting on money yet we are hungry.
4. Try me and see. Ghana will be like America.
5. I am not corrupt and will never be corrupt.
6. I can develop Ghana without borrowing, the money is here.
7. I will transform Ghana in 18 months.
8. I will not operate a family and friends government.
9. I will fight corruption with the Anas principle.
10. I will make the Korle lagoon and Odo river a tourist sites.
11. I will build a factory in every district.
12. I will give each constituency $1m every year.
13. The hikes in fuel prices will be a thing of the past. I will reduce it drastically.
14. I will make Accra the cleanest city in Africa in my first term in office.
15. I will build 111 hospitals in 18 months.
16. I will build 350 Secondary Schools in four years.
17. We will never go to the IMF for a bailout. The consequences are dire. Only incompetent government goes to IMF.
These are among the list of lies Ghanaians were told before they voted for NPP.
It is becoming clear that anything a politician says is a lie.
