The Executive Director of Africa Educational Watch (EduWatch), Mr. Kofi Asare has asserted that the E-Levy is already transforming Ghana’s economy forever and that there is no need for any IMF loan.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Monday, 27th June 2022, he wrote;
“Agyenkwa e-levy is already transforming Ghana’s economy forever. No lazy IMF biaa!”.
The comments of Mr. Kofi Asare comes as a background to the viral tweet made by Gabby Otchere-Darko today. According to Gabby, he is not against an IMF programme. He revealed that Ghana has only met 10% of the target revenue from E-Levy after 5 months. Due to this government still need money and may have to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a loan.
Kofi Asare’s comments seems a bit sarcastic as Gabby’s comments indicates that the E-Levy’s projected revenue has not been met. Some people have commented that, the government was warned that introducing E-Levy will reduce the number of transactions and that the government should go to the IMF for bail out. Yet the government said IMF is not an option since it will impose many restrictions on the economy.
