Readers can recall how the Electronic transactions levy was met with massive public debate but was eventually passed into law. There have been some interesting reactions now that the levy is in full force.
Kofi Asare has clarified that 83% out of 1300 momo users have admitted that they have reduced the volume of their transactions ever since the E-levy was passed into law. Kofi further explained that 1300 does not represent the 12 million Momo users.
However, Hajia Zee mentioned that she has stopped using the momo due to the levy. In other words, Hajia sought to explain that she has gone beyond reducing her volume of transactions to the stage of stoppage as she no longer uses her account.
Kofi Ankomah Hagan also expressed the fact that he is sad because these people are simply collapsing momo in Ghana. Who are these people who are collapsing momo?
Musah Abattoir also confirmed that he has stopped using his momo account because he does not want to pay that tax under the economic hardship that he is currently experiencing.
What are your thoughts on the ongoing discussion? Do you think that despite the exemptions on the levy, many Ghanaians are not motivated to use their momo accounts? Do you think the E-levy has affected Ghanaians positively?
