The construction of the National Cathedral is continually generating debates in this country. We have those who are strongly for its construction and these people are mainly those from the ruling party. But the majority of Ghanaians seem not to be in favour because of the current economic conditions. They are worried about the amount of money going into the project whiles Ghanaians are suffering.
The latest to join the long list of critiques for the construction of the cathedral is a security analyst Adib Saani. He is particularly concerned about the cost of the cathedral’s architecture. He doesn’t understand why we have to pay David Adjaye 22 million dollars for the architectural stuff when the cost of the much more prestigious and bigger Burj Khalifa’s architectural designs costs just about 1.8 million dollars. He said how insensitive and callous can we be in a Facebook post today.
But it is surprising how we do things in this country at times. You can’t compare the Burj Khalifa to the National cathedral in any way. The differences are just so staggeringly huge. But look at the cost of architectural drawings of both structures. It’s just illogical. Is David Adjaye the only qualified architect in this country? Hmmmmmmmmm. Only time will tell where all this will end us.
