This is an opinionated piece of article.
Knowing fully well that they will not need the votes of Ghanaians anymore after completing their term in office, politicians always pull surprises on Ghanaians. A clear case is the stance of the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Freddie Blay. He has revealed that he will not contest the Chairmanship position again. In view of that, he has off late been giving some comments with many describe as “rude and arrogant”.
The first was his statement on government’s funding of the National Cathedral and this triggered massive reactions from Ghanaians. Now, he has stated his stance on LGBTQ.
This came as a big surprise to Ghanaians and it seems Ghanaians are learning their lessons. It is possible that the anti-LGBTQ bill will not be passed under this administration since Bigwigs in the party like Gabby Otchere Darko, Chairman Freddie Blay and others will not let this go. So I can state authoritatively that the future of that bill will depend on the next President who succeeds Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.
It is in respect to that, that I plead with all the Presidential Hopefuls to come clear on their stance on this bill so that in any case when they backtrack, their own words will be used to hold them accountable.
