Patient Detained For Failing To Settle His Medical Bills.

The assertion that business does not entertain beggars has manifested at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) when a popular medical doctor at the outfit was reportedly ordered for the detention of a 32-year-old man, Francis Agyei who allegedly refused to settle his medical bills after his admission at the hospital.

‌According to Dr.Papa Yankson at the Department of Plastic And Reconstructive Surgery, Francis Agyei was referred to his department where he was attended to, aside dressing him with an occlusive materials for more than one week at the total cost of

‌ghc 300-500 per dressing.

‌

‌But after he was discharged Francis refused to settle his debts hence the detention since the facility hardly runs services for free.

‌

‌On how Francis was set free, the correspondent gathered that a nurse at the Emergency Department of KATH Madam Hagar Baidoo upon hearing the plight of the patient and moved by it allegedly organized and solicited for funds that was used to offset Francis Agyei’s bills after which he was set free.

‌

‌Giving the background on how Agyei was admitted to the hospital sources said Agyei a native of Sefwi Bekwai traveled to Kumasi to seek for greener pastures.

‌

‌Whilst in Kumasi he got a friend who allegedly volunteered to stay with him at Kumasi Denkyemuoso in an uncompleted building.

‌

‌Francis Agyei, it was said been a shoe repairer returned back home from work on Saturday June 11,2024 and decided to take a rest.

‌

‌Sources added that whilst Francis was at room his friend emerged and asked him (Francis Agyei) on whether he was the one who consumed his( friend) food he kept in the room of which he replied in negative.

‌

‌The friend it was alleged became angry over the answer with the suspicion that since they both live in the room Agyei was the culprit who might have consumed the food and resorts to telling lies.

‌

‌The alleged angry friend, it was said left the room and came back later with a hot water he poured on Agyei who was then asleep.

‌

‌The shoe repairer only woke up from his sleep amidst wailing to notice his burnt and deformed body.

‌

‌Stressing that his noise making only attracted neighbors who rushed him to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

‌

‌Been allegedly financially handicapped to settle his medical bills, hence his ordeal at KATH that led him to detention at the Surgery department.

‌

‌At the time of filing this reports Francis Agyei has been discharged but enquiries at Denkyemouso where Francis was staying indicate that the accused person been (Francis friend) has packed off, whilst no police report has been made so far.
