Following their victory over Elmina Sharks at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, Asante Kotoko lifted the Ghana Premier League trophy. On June 2, Prosper Narteh Ogum’s team was crowned winners, but they had to wait until their final home game of the season to get the trophy.
The trophy was presented to Kotoko in front of thousands of fans who were overjoyed to see the team succeed after a disastrous previous season that saw the Porcupine Warriors go trophyless while fierce rivals Hearts of Oak won both the league and the FA Cup.
In a thrilling encounter before the title ceremony, Kotoko defeated Elmina Sharks 3-0. On 26 minutes, left-back Ibrahim Imoro netted a spectacular free-kick to put Kotoko ahead at the break.
Mfegue Omgba, a Cameroonian forward, scored twice in the final 12 minutes as Kotoko came out of the interval hungry to score more goals. Kotoko will play Accra Lions in their final match, while relegated Sharks will host Great Olympics.
