Today is a very important day in the Christian calendar. Christians all over the world are celebrating Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit descended onto the disciples of the Jesus in Jerusalem almost two thousand years ago.
But while the world was in a prayerful mood waiting on the Lord, blood was flowing like water in St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo state in Nigeria. This was after terrorists stormed the fully packed church auditorium and started shooting everyone at sight.
According to eye witnesses, the terrorists first detoned a granite causing heavy blast at the entrance of the church. They then entered and started firing indiscriminately. A woman who attempted to clime the wall was fired down.
At the end of the 5 minutes attack, over 50 bodies were gathered with a dozen severely injured.
In a statement issued by the bishops od the area, those injured are responding to treatment. He said the entire church was violated by the terrorist. Rev Fr. Augustine asked the Christians to pray for the deceased, their families and the diocese as a whole
In a related development, Pope Francis has expressed his condolences for the victims of a terror attack on a Catholic Church in Nigeria.
