Kwame Nkrumah Is Not His Real Name, Checkout The Real Name of Ghana’s First President.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was undoubtedly one of Africa’s best political leader, well known as the first Prime Minister, then President of Ghana who imagined a united Africa. 

Kwame Nkrumah became famous after ten years of campaigning for Ghanaian independence from the British rule (which ultimately materialized on 6th of March, 1957). To many if not all, it’s believed that kwame Nkrumah was his real name, however in actuality that wasn’t, he was born Francis Nwia – Kofi Ngonloma in Nkroful to Kofi Ngonloma, a goldsmith, and Elizabeth Nyaniba, a salesperson, who he saw as a great inspiration.

During his years as a student in the United States, though, he was known as Francis Nwia Kofi Nkrumah, Kofi being the name given to males born on Friday. He later changed his name to Kwame Nkrumah in 1945 in the UK, preferring the name “Kwame”. He went to London and organized an international conference for African freedom. At that time he changed his name to “Kwame”.
