UEFA Nations League: Team of the Week After Round 1

In an era of international duties, the UEFA Nations League is back once again for its third edition and on the quest for players’ performance after the first round, here is the Team of the Week courtesy of sofa score statistics.

Goalkeeper

Igor Shatskiy (Kazakhstan)

Magic hands of the 33-year-old shot-stopper cleaned Azerbaijan out as his side thrived on two goals to nil in the UEFA Nations League opener. Igor made 7 saves and kept a clean sheet.

Defenders

Daley Blind (Netherlands)

Flanked on the left-hand side against Belgium, the Ajax defender exhibited some skills along the lines which booked him 2 assists alongside 4 key passes.

Met Croatia for the third time, the Bayern Munchen star joined forces with teammates to defeat the Croatians by 3-0 for the first time, in which he scored as the lone holding midfielder. Aside from scoring he also ensured fluidity in passes in the midfield.

Frenkie de Jong (Netherlands)

The Barcelona midfielder’s accuracy at the end of the match against Belgium was rated as the best. Handled the centre and defensive roles – he assisted, made 4 key passes and recorded game accuracy of 93.9%. A quite splendid performance.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Denmark)

Impressed with Tottenham Hotspur in the just-ended season, the 26-year-old extended his form in the Nations League opener against France today helping his side clinch on 2-1 victory – which he assisted.

Attackers

Memphis Depay (Netherlands)

Deployed in the final third along with Steven Bergwijn, Memphis Depay delighted twice against Belgium in a 4-1 victory and emerged as a player of the match.

Karim Benzema (France)

Delighted at the club level, the 2021/2022 La Liga and Champions League top scorer replicated his scoring ability once again in France Nations League opener against Denmark but not enough as they lost by 2-1.

Saba Lobjanidze (Georgia)

Made his 25th debut, the 27-year-old winger who plays his trade with Hatayspor in Turkey made it a remarkable one, providing two assists, 4 key passes and 4 shots on goal in his side’s triumphant 4-0 victory against Gibraltar.
