GPL Outstanding Game: Asante Kotoko Win 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League Title After Picking A Point

Asante Kotoko have won 2021/22 Ghana Premier League after picking a vital away point against AshantiGold at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium this afternoon. With three games to the end of the season, Asante Kotoko lead the table with 60 points, 10 points difference with second placed Bechem United. Meanwhile, AshantiGold striker Yaw Annor is on level with Frank Etouga with 20 goals each after scoring for his side today.

The two teams started the game on a calm note but AshantiGold made the first attempt for goal in the 3rd minutes. Agyekum failed to latch onto a through pass, allowing Asante Kotoko defender to take charge of the game. AshantiGold had another chance by way of a free kick but Appiah McCarthy fired into the human wall.

AshantiGold top striker Yaw Annor broke the deadlock for the miners in the 11th minutes. Following a slip by Asante Kotoko defender Appau close to the center circle, Yaw Annor pounced on the blunder and swiftly landed in the box of Asante Kotoko, rounding up three players before smashing the ball over goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim. The goal became his 20th goal of the season, bringing him at par with Frank Etouga as the duo jostle and bustle for the goal kind gong.

Despite breaking the deadlock, AshantiGold kept their composure, making it arduous for Asante Kotoko to find their rhythm and attack.

In the 20th minutes, Yaw Annor almost scored having managed to breach Asante Kotoko’s defense but the final pass was intercepted. 

As AshantiGold held on to their lone goal at half hour mark, Asante Kotoko were yet to create a goal bound chance, looking lifeless upfront. 

In the 31st minutes, Frank Etouga was laid a pass at the edge of the opponent’s box but his shot at goal got to the opponent.

In the 35th minutes, Stephen Banahene rattled the woodwork from a direct free kick and he followed it up with another shot but goalkeeper Danald Ibrahim palmed it over. 

In the 44th and 45th minutes, AshantiGold produced two glorious moments but Asante Kotoko were left off the hook. 

AshantiGold ended the first half as the better side, guarding their goal amidst begging chances that could have added more goals to their credit. 

AshantiGold took over from where they left in the early minutes of the second half, making their way into Kotoko’s box. Yaw Annor had a one on one with goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim but the latter sprawled for the ball.

In the 67th minutes, Maxwell Agyemang pulled parity for Asante Kotoko after out jumping his opponents to head home Imoro Ibrahim’s free kick.

The game ended a goal apiece for AshantiGold and Aaantw Kotoko, making the porcupine warriors league champions.
