What Can We Expect from Ghana at the World Cup 2022?

After securing a spot in the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, the Black Stars have their eyes on the trophy and are set for new challenges, after being the first African nation to qualify for the upcoming World Cup.

Going through a tough qualification round with South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia during the second round, Ghana played Nigeria in the third round that took the Black Stars to Qatar. The Ghana national team was going through managerial changes after sacking the Serbian Milovan Rajevac, and appointing Otto Addo as the interim coach.

The newly hired coach carried a heavy burden because the Black Stars went absent from the previous World Cup 2018 in Russia. However, the interim exceeded expectations and led the Ghanian side to Qatar 2022.

This time, the African nation believes that Ghana has what it takes to make the continent proud. Despite falling into a challenging group with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea, the Ghanaian lineup includes some renowned stars like Thomas Partey (Arsenal), Mohammed Kudus (Ajax), and Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), that can take the team beyond the group stage.

The Road to Qatar 2022

It’s not easy to make it to the World Cup finals, and after a solid performance in the second round of qualifications and leading their group, Ghana faced a tough side for the third qualification stage.

In the decisive match, the Black Stars faced Nigeria, whose lineup was packed with star footballers. However, after a 0-0 match in Baba Yara Stadium, Thomas Partey helped his team score in the away game in Nigeria, declaring his team as a winner by away goals as the match ended 1-1.

In their last participation in 2014, Ayew’s team was very close to reaching the semifinals, but the Uruguayan Luis Suarez denied a late winner after a handball. But now, as we wait for the final squad, Ghana is looking to take over Uruguay and South Korea and qualify side-by-side with Portugal for the following phase.

Final Thoughts

Ghana is looking to go further in the World Cup 2022 in Qatar with globally known stars. Relying on the experience of Jordan Ayew and the peak of Thomas Partey, the expectations are high for the Black Stars to accompany the tough Portuguese side beyond the group stage.
