Bono Is The Cradle Of Akan, They Discovered Kumasi And Any Other Towns – Historian Clarifies

Ghanaian historian popularly known as Akaniba on Akaniba TV yesterday briefed on the history and culture of the Bono people.

With his in-depth knowledge of the Akan history, Okaniba started prehistoric times when Ghana was still an empty state.

According to Akaniba, Akan is derived from Akandifo, an epithet on Bono. He said the first Akan tribe to arrive in Ghana those days were the Bono people. He indicated that there were other ethnic groups such as the Guans already settled in present day Ghana, but they lived outside the lake Volta. He said only the Bono people were able to cross the lake Volta and settled in the present day Kumasi, Sefwi, Techiman, Dormaa and other towns around.

He also added that Bono is the cradle of Akan, that most Akans migrated from Bono and that is why they called themselves elders.

“Bono is the civilization of Akan, for most practices, institutions of Akan culture have its origin from Bono.

Twi language stemmed from the Bono (Techiman) king Nana Baffuor Twi” he also said.

He also revealed how the Gonjas tormented them under the leadership of their powerful warrior, Ndewura Jakpa.
