EPL Champions since 1992 –

The Premier League, often known as the English Premier League (official name: The Football Association Premier League Limited), is the highest level of English football.

It is contested by 20 clubs and runs on a relegation and promotion system with the English Football League (EFL).

Seasons usually last from August to May, with each side playing a total of 38 games (playing all 19 other teams both at home and away). The majority of the games are held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Following the decision of teams in the Football League First Division to break away from the Football League, which was formed in 1888, and take advantage of a lucrative television rights sale to Sky, the competition was renamed the FA Premier League on February 20, 1992.

The Premier League is the most-watched sports league in the world, with 643 million homes and a potential TV audience of 4.7 billion people watching it in 212 countries.

As of 2021, the Premier League is ranked first in the UEFA coefficients, which are based on league results in European competitions over the previous five seasons.

With five English clubs having won a total of fourteen European trophies, the English Premier League has the second-highest number of UEFA Champions League/European Cup championships.

Fifty clubs have competed since the inception of the Premier League in 1992: forty-eight English and two Welsh clubs. Seven of them have won the title: Manchester United (13), Manchester City (6), Chelsea (5), Arsenal (3), Blackburn Rovers (1), Leicester City (1), and Liverpool (1).
