Project Coordinator Advises Ghanaians To Keep Proper Environment To Avoid Flooding And Diseases.

The Project Coordinator of the Greater Accra and Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblies (GAMA/GKMA) respectively, Ing George Asiedu has observed that as the rainy season gets closer there is the need for Ghanaians to keep proper environment to avoid flooding and diseases that could affect the country’s administration.

Speaking to the Content Writer King Amoah in an exclusive interview, the Coordinator indicated that issues that border on environment and flooding are no more fresh stories in the country.

Hence it is a collective mandate for all to fight against it.

He hinted that when proper management are not enforced on the issues that block our drainage systems like dumping liquid wastes and garbages apart from flooding, the system usually causes disease known as “Facol Coliform”

Facol Coliform, Ing Asiedu said mainly cause bacteria among others in environment due to poor management of solid waste (toilets/faeces).

According to Ing Asiedu it is against this background that environmental and sanitation matters needed to be managed together to enhance good health at all times.

To realize the agenda, the Project Coordinator urged stakeholders in the authority who are responsible for the environment and sanitation to adequately provide waste bins in the communities in addition to the management of the drainage system.

When this is done he said, would discourage people from littering that end up choking the drains and gutters and eventually resulting to flooding.

Alternatively aside advising waste collectors to work up to expectation to help avoid flooding cases and diseases in the communities Ing Asiedu also tasked house owners to acquire waste bin in their homes to enhance the challenges in the fight against environmental and sanitation issues.

In Ing Asiedu’s opinion, if Ghanaians strictly adhere to the rules and regulations that govern the environment, the situation where government spends huge sums of monies to save flood victims and other diseases that emerge through environmental pollution would be curbed.

GAMA/GKMA project of which Ing.George Asiedu is the Project Coordinator is an initiative of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and funded by the World Bank.

The objective of the project is to increase access to improve sanitation and water supply in some selected Districts within the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblies respectively.

With the emphasis on low income communities and to strengthen in the management of environmental sanitation in the two cities.

Since 2021 where the project took off, management have successfully provided 1049 ultra modern household toilet facilities to beneficiaries.

But in his quest to ensure that every household enjoys the facilities Ing Asiedu is appealing to the general public within the two cities to contact their representatives for more information to enable them get access to the offer.
