The Black Stars squad for the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers and the 4 nation team tournament in Japan was released today and it seems some Ghanaians are not happy with some players included in the team. Among the list of players some Ghanaians showed disappointment in for making the squad, three of them stood out.
The one who stood above it all was Wakaso Mubarak. The midfielder has seen no competitive action since September 2021 and his invitation shocked Ghanaians. Ghanaians are questioning the basis for inviting the 31-year-old into the squad.
Second, on the list is Baba Rahman was on loan from Chelsea to FC Reading in the English Championship. He enjoyed a fairly good season in the second division of English football. They are criticizing his callup with some linking it to his perceived relationship with the GFA boss.
Moving down the list is Lawrence Ati Zigi whose callup has raised eyebrows as the goalie has failed to impress in previous callups. He has been part of the Black Stars team since 2017. The last time he kept a post for Ghana, the team conceded two goals against Algeria that ended in the 3-0 loss to Ghana.
